Bezos Admits to Relationship with Lauren Sanchez
As one of the most public figures on the planet, it’s hard for Amazon founder Jeff Bezos to keep anything under wraps. In a recent statement relating to his infamous split with MacKenzie Scott, Bezos openly admitted to having a relationship with Lauren Sanchez, his now-fiancée, while still being married to Scott. This confession is coming few years after the rumors started rolling.
No Love Lost—Scott and Bezos’ Multi-billion Dollar Split
The admission diverges from the narrative of a cordial separation. The former couple’s highly publicized divorce resulted in Scott walking away with a whopping $38 billion in Amazon stocks, engendering what is, so far, the most expensive divorce in history. Yet, in spite of the enormous payout, Scott and Bezos are said to still have an amicable working relationship.
Sanchez and Bezos—An Affair Morphs into an Engagement
Sanchez, a long-standing news anchor and helicopter pilot, met Bezos in 2016 while interviewing him for her shows. The two started dating after Bezos and Scott decided to call it quits after 25 years of marriage. In 2021, the engagement news broke the internet. However, this relationship was at the heart of speculation long before they went public.
Affair Acknowledgement and Upcoming Nuptials
Reflecting on the whole situation, Bezos recently said: ‘Just to set the record straight, I did have a relationship with this woman.’ Despite widespread theories, rumors, and whisperings about their relationship in the public sphere, this is the first time Bezos himself has openly confirmed his affair with Sanchez. The couple now seems to be looking ahead towards their future together with an upcoming wedding set for sometime in late 2023.
Ironically, since the divorce, both Scott and Bezos continue to scale new heights. Scott has been an active philanthropist, giving away billions of her wealth to various causes, while Bezos has resumed his place as Amazon’s captain and embarked on space exploration initiatives.
