Family and friends are mourning the loss of University of Georgia (UGA) senior Liza Burke, who passed away this week after spending her final days in her favorite place, surrounded by the people she loved. Described as a bright, adventurous soul, Liza touched the lives of many during her time at UGA.

A Perfect Place

Liza’s mother, Susan Burke, shared that her daughter’s final request was to spend her remaining days at home, in the embrace of her loved ones. Susan described her daughter as “a ray of sunshine” with “an irreplaceable spirit.” Liza’s residence, filled with memorabilia from her many travels and adventures, served as a special sanctuary for the beloved UGA student.

Saying Goodbye

Fellow students, professors, and friends are taking to social media to pay tribute to Liza’s inspiring and joyful presence. UGA has opened a dedicated space for individuals to come together in remembrance and celebration of her life.

Remembering Liza

Liza, an environmental science major, was passionate about making a significant impact in the world. Alongside her studies, she volunteered her time and energy to numerous community outreach programs and environmental initiatives.

As her loved ones continue to mourn her passing, they are committed to carrying on Liza’s legacy of love, kindness, and enthusiasm for life. A memorial scholarship fund in her name is being established at UGA to provide support for future environmental science students and carry forward Liza’s passion for making the world a better place.
