Former lawyer to Donald Trump, Michael Cohen, has offered a single word of advice to the president’s possible defense team in light of the recent investigations into Trump administration officials. Cohen, who served a prison sentence for lying to Congress and violating campaign finance laws, has become a vocal critic of the president since his fall from grace in 2018.
A Word of Warning
In a recent interview, Cohen offered a dire prediction for any lawyers considering representing Trump or members of his administration in these ongoing investigations. “Beware,” Cohen said simply. “It’s not worth it.”
The Investigation Continues
Cohen’s warning comes as several members of the Trump administration face ongoing investigations into alleged misconduct, including obstruction of justice and abuse of power. Among those implicated in the investigations are the president’s son-in-law and senior advisor, Jared Kushner, as well as former White House advisor Steve Bannon.
Attorneys in the Crosshairs
As the investigations continue, several attorneys have been brought into the crosshairs for their role in representing these high-profile clients. The New York Times reported earlier this month that several lawyers have been accused of enabling or participating in unethical or illegal behavior on behalf of their clients.
The Risk of Affiliation
For Cohen, the risk of affiliation with the Trump administration or its associates is simply too great. “The consequences of being associated with this president and his administration are catastrophic,” he warned. “If you’re a lawyer, you have to ask yourself, is it worth it? Is it worth risking your reputation, your career, your freedom?”
Looking Ahead
As the investigations continue to unfold, it remains to be seen whether any lawyers will take heed of Cohen’s warning. For now, however, the former Trump lawyer is unequivocal in his message: “Beware.”
